We told you about our latest project, an education & training program for the Mabhuti youth. Now we are very proud to let the youth tell you about it in their own words. We interviewed Bento, 14 and Fugul, 17 and here is what they said :
Hello Bento, hello Fugul, so you’ve just started training at the My’Bhuti Centre. What training did you enroll in?
Bento: I’m taking carpentry classes and Fugul is following the cooking program – he wants to be a cooker ! [laughter]
Fugul: so what ? You’re so happy when I bake for you! … More seriously, I’m very happy to be given this opportunity. I used to work in the fields with my uncle and my brother and there was no way I was going to go to training instead. We need every penny that we earn, you know.
So tell us about a typical day of yours
Fugul : we wake up at 5.30 and go to work in the Berden laboratories. We help them prepare the experiments and clean the place. At 9 we have a 25′ break and a small snack – sometimes we get American chocolates! At 11 o’clock we finish work. and have lunch at the laboratory restaurant. Then in the afternoon we start the training from 12.30 to 4 – sometimes 5. It’s intense! But I love it.
How did you enrol in the program – how did you hear about i?
Bento: I told him about it! My mum works at My’Bhuti Centre so she knew before the others. First they asked the employees what kind of training they thought would be useful and interesting for us, Mabhutians. Then, they organized a meeting for all those who wanted to go in the program. You can enrol from 11 to 18.
Fugul : yes, I would have heard about it anyway [laughter]. The whole village knew about it very quickly – it’s a beautiful thing you know. I hope to make my dream come true now – that would never have happened a year ago. I was working in the fields, thinking that this would be my life forever. Now, every night when I go to sleep, I can’t wait to wake up and go to cooking training at the My’Bhuti Centre.
So tell us more about your dreams – how do you imagine your lives later?
Bento: I would like to be a carpenter and build a wooden table with five chairs for my parents. And I would like to travel to America.
Fugul: Why America? I like it here. I want to open a restaurant and cook Mabhutian food, but also foreign dishes. I would like to make my people discover international cuisine – French fries, ratatouille, beer [laughter].
Thank you Bento & Fugul and good luck!
